Why "I'll start my podcast later" is sabotaging your success
Yesterday, we discussed feeling like a "non-podcast" person and how that belief can hold you back from launching your show. Today, I want to dive deeper into why this feeling is SO COMMON and what's actually causing it. There are literally hundreds of podcast hosting platforms, thousands of microphone options, and endless advice about "the right way" to podcast. And when you start researching, it can be overwhelming in itself. It's enough to make an experienced professional yell "nope!" and close their laptop immediately, convincing themselves they'll "figure it out later!" Avoiding starting your podcast doesn't just stop you from creating content - it affects your entire professional growth and personal fulfillment. Because you're avoiding podcasting, you're forced to look for other ways to share your expertise and build your authority. You might find yourself stuck posting on social media that gets buried in algorithms, limiting your reach and impact. Even worse you see where someone just launched the show you’ve been thinking about for years. Or maybe even trying to write blog posts that take forever to gain traction, eating up precious time… especially when you could have recorded three episodes in the same amount of time. Maybe you end up guest-appearing on other people's podcasts, which is great, but you're building THEIR audience instead of your own. And a whole world of opportunities - speaking gigs, consulting clients, book deals, industry connections - seems LOCKED away from you. Here's the truth though… It's not your fault. Podcasting CAN seem complex and intimidating. Without a clear roadmap or mentor, it's easy to get paralyzed by all the decisions. The big problem is information overload and analysis paralysis. You don't have a clear, step-by-step system to help you navigate from idea to published episode. If you had a proven roadmap, it becomes nearly impossible to stay stuck, even if you're a "non-podcast" person. Think of how you feel when the overwhelm is replaced with excitement as you see the bright future in front of you. You don't need to have EVERYTHING figured out before you start. Focus on getting your first few episodes recorded with basic equipment, understanding the fundamentals of good audio, and just hitting "publish" - then you'll have momentum to easily build the rest of your podcasting skills. I know even this is a lot easier said than done, but don't worry, over the next few days I'll be holding your hand and helping you out. In tomorrow's email, I'll share a simple strategy that can help you launch your podcast quickly, even if you don't consider yourself a "podcast person." Talk soon, Dave Jackson P.S.
