It Doesn’t Hurt TO Think On It
So Kit informed me my yearly plan is going up by $100/year. There are two thoughts you can follow here:
- How do I get more money out of my list?
- What is a cheaper alternative?
Kit (formerly, and forever in my heart as “Convertkit”) provides all sorts of fun tools. I use them for my email (along with this list). With this price hike I asked, “Do I use these fancy features?” the answer. Maybe, but do they make a difference? No.
I’m lookin at Systeme (aff) which will do your email and probably your laundry for free. It’s one of those “all in one” tools. Admittedly their email list does not have some of the features that Kit does (if I want to sell advertising in my newsletter, I’ll just, um sell advertising - put up a shingle, ya know?).
For 3000 subscribers on their “Pro” plan, it’s $990/yr. For Systeme for 10,000 subscribers it’s $470. I can also use it for my website (so Goodbye Wordpress for one of the few sites not on Podpage), I can do landing pages, scheduling and a whole lot more. But wait, I’ve been down this road…..
WHAT ABOUT THE TIME IT TAKES TO LEARN AND MOVE?
I then found out that if you buy a yearly subscription of any plan, they will move all of your forms, lists, etc for free. Advantage Systeme.
But What About All Those Emails From Cross-Promoting in Other Newsletters?
This had me worried. There are people recommending my newsletter when someone signs up for theirs. Then I ran the numbers. .5% a month (6% a year) came from recommendations in other newsletters. A HUGE percentage of my sign ups come from my lead magnets. So again, I feel that’s no big deal .
Dual Systems To Make Sure It’s A Good Fit
So I am 91% sure I’m moving my marketing emails to Systeme. But to make sure its a good fit, I’m going to have them move my Kit content to Systeme. Then I’ll run both to make sure it’s a good fit. I know there will be surprises (there are always are), but there will also be $520 in my pocket.
I do wonder if they wouldn’t have had to jack up their price if they hadn’t paid for not one but TWO rebrands (and we all still call it convertkit…) I’ll keep you posted.
P.S. If you thought I was going to talk about different media hosts, check out this episode that explains the different features so you can get the best media host for you.
